Charis Chamber Voices: Songs of Democracy
Songs of Democracy marks the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States through music that reflects the American spirit and the many voices that shape it. From the folk sounds of Zion’s Walls and Shenandoah to the powerful poetry of Dylan Thomas in John Corigliano’s Fern Hill, this program explores themes of memory, hope, and community. Works by Howard Hanson, Roy Ringwald, André Thomas, Randall Thompson, and Cecil Effinger draw on American texts and ideals, offering moments of reflection, celebration, and gratitude for the freedoms we share.
Our Friday night performance will be in the state of Connecticut. A little revolutionary history... Connecticut’s Governor, Jonathan Trumbull, was the only colonial governor to initially and openly support the Revolution. Consequently, Connecticut supplied tens of thousands of troops to the Continental army. You might even see a colonial soldier as you pass through the doors at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan.
Saturdays performance will take us to the historic town where British spy Major John André was captured in 1780 - Tarrytown. Join us here as we make our debut at the Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns.
Our famous wine and cheese reception will follow each concert. Obtain your tickets below or at the door. Thank you for your support!
Laura will sing the solo in John Corigliano’s Fern Hill.
